CLARE & JOOST VAN DEN BERG
Husband-and-wife duo Joost and Clare van den Berg have been shaping Auckland’s dining scene since 2010, opening a celebrated series of dining rooms across the city, including Zus & Zo, Zomer, Odettes Eatery, and the European-inspired Hugos Bistro. Drawing on the experience of these ventures, the couple now focus exclusively on Daphnes, which they launched in March 2021
Inspired by their 2018 travels through Europe, Joost and Clare envisioned a space that captures the warmth and conviviality of European dining. The interiors, designed by Clare, feature dim lighting, textured fabrics, and dark, rich wooden furniture, enhanced by sumptuous burgundy and navy upholstery — creating an atmosphere that is at once welcoming, intimate, and elegantly refined
